DOCUMENTA Raises Awareness of Disinformation through Two TackleDisInfo Interactive Workshops

Our partner DOCUMENTA organised two presentation and awareness-raising Interactive Workshops as part of the European project TackleDisInfo. Combating Disinformation and Promoting Digital Literacy through Education and Training. A total of 34 participants involved in the field of non-formal education took part in the activities.

The Interactive Workshops were carried out in collaboration with La Escueluca, an organisation specialised in the training of youth and leisure educators. We would like to thank them for their support, commitment and trust in helping bring this initiative closer to their learners.

The participants came from a variety of backgrounds, but all shared a common interest in education, participation and working with children and young people. In addition to their experience in non-formal education, many also had training related to formal education, which enriched the exchange of ideas and experiences throughout the sessions.

Discovering the TackleDisInfo Project

The Interactive Workshops provided an opportunity to present the objectives and results of the TackleDisInfo project, a European initiative aimed at strengthening digital literacy, critical thinking and citizens’ ability to identify, analyse and respond to disinformation in digital environments.

Participants were introduced to the project’s online learning platform and explored the educational resources available, covering topics such as information verification, critical analysis of digital content and the role of emotions in the spread of messages and information.

Learning to Identify Disinformation

Through a range of participatory activities, participants reflected on the different types of misleading information circulating online and on social media.

Among other topics, the sessions explored the differences between disinformation, misinformation and malinformation, using practical examples and situations closely related to the participants’ everyday experiences.

One of the most engaging activities focused on the role emotions play in the way we consume and share information. By analysing different online posts, participants reflected on how emotions such as surprise, outrage, concern and empathy can influence our decisions and contribute to the spread of certain types of content.

Active Participation and Testimonials

As part of the project activities, participants also contributed to the recording of several video testimonials in which they shared their reflections on the importance of digital literacy, critical thinking and the fight against disinformation.

These materials will support the dissemination of the project’s results and help raise awareness about the need to develop digital competencies that enable people to navigate today’s digital environment in a safe, critical and responsible manner.

At DOCUMENTA, ”we would like to once again thank all participants for their active involvement, interest and valuable contributions throughout the Interactive Workshops.

We remain committed to promoting a more informed, critical and resilient citizenry, better prepared to face the challenges posed by disinformation in our societies.”
